The NV-U70T is ready to go straight out of the box - no need to waste time installing programmes, software or mapping data. It has a clear, bright 3.5-inch screen and the system is operated using the touch-screen menu. The anti-glare and anti-fingerprint coating ensures the screen can be viewed in bright sunlight thereby aiding driver usability.

The NV-U70T has 1GB of flash memory built-in and comes pre-installed with European map coverage of 27 countries.

The NVU70T can be used with an in-car adapter or the internal Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery gives up to 4 hours use according to Sony.

Maps can be displayed in both 2D and 3D and voice-guidance instructions are given as is common among other satnav systems of this level.

One of the main benefits of the Sony NV-U70T is the traffic information system. The U70T can receive traffic information via an RDS-TMC receiver cradle and information relating to hold-up's, roadworks, road accidents etc

This information can then be used by the system when calculating the new optimum route for the journey. The system can dynamically route the user around any holdups and congestion. Therefore it is not necessary for the system or user to be aware of any hold-up or congestion prior to commencing their journey - when the system comes across information enroute that information can be planned into the journey routing.

The unit comes with over 1,000,000 pre-installed Points of Interest covering such locations as hotels, petrol stations, restaurants etc. Locating a local amenity is no problem using the Sony NV-U70T. Whenever the user chooses an amenity, the NV-U50T will calculate the optimum route to get to it. Say the user is running short on fuel - simply choose petrol stations, the NV-U70T will locate the nearest one based on the users current position and then quickly navigate the user to it,

The unit also comes with various languages built-in - it speaks English, German, French, Dutch, Czech, Polish, Greek, Flemish, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish.

The NV-U70T is an excellent system and represents great value for money when you consider the mapping and real-time traffic information features of the system.

The main disadvantage I found was the difficulty of using this item. I have used 2 different brands of sat nav previously and found them easy to use without the instructions. I had to check the instructions with this one. Also some of the places of interest are not that up to date. I searched for nightclubs in Sheffield and only 1 came up but in reality there are many more nightclubs.

Due to car theft I don't like to leave the sat nav or the holder in my car. The pouch that was supplied can only carry the sat nav itself and does not offer any protection, it's only like thin material. It can be difficult trying to carry the sat nav in the pouch (whilst trying not to catch the screen on anything), the cigaretter lighter plug in power supply, the holder that sticks on the window and the cable for traffic announcements.

It makes me laugh the price of the product and how little thought goes into protecting/carrying the equipment from your car but then I suppose if it gets damaged they are not out of pocket only you, and if you do buy another they will gain more money.

It can tell you to turn just before you actually need to turn but I prefer that. Also when I was at a junction that was a bit confusing it did say take a sharp right rather than just right which was helpful.

Another thing I noticed is that it can take you the long way round following the main roads instead of the shorter way.

A good feature I thought was having the option of setting what sort of vehicle you are using such as lorry, van, car, motorbike etc. Also if you selected a car there was slow, normal and fast
options.

This product is not too bad the main thing that annoys me is I find it difficult to use and if I were going to buy a new model I would go for an easier to use one. If you are thinking of buying any sat nav I would recommend having a demonstrating of using it in the shop so you can decide yourself what you think.
