Just as users of the recently launched New TomTom GO range, users of the New TomTom ONE 3rd EDITION can also now easily and instantly improve their own maps with TomTom Map Share™. TomTom Map Share™ lets users share improvements, daily, automatically and easily via TomTom HOME – TomTom’s free software application. TomTom has the world’s largest satellite navigation community with over 10 million users. TomTom Map Share™ users can contribute and exchange all their improvements amongst each other, making the best maps available for all of them. TomTom Map Share™ means TomTom drivers can always have the most up-to-date maps and inside local knowledge at their fingertips.

The latest maps are preloaded on the device. In case a newer release becomes available when the customer starts using the device, TomTom gives the user a free downloadable update.

Tomtom One XL europe comes with seamless maps of Europe preinstalled. Easy to use and clear to see with the XL's 4.3" widescreen - get the full picture. Map data is stored on the XL and new updates are available from TomTom - so you can always have the latest maps.  

Traffic Ready - FREE Life time subscription for live traffic updates - IncludedThe TomTom RDS-TMC Traffic Receiver functions like an FM radio antenna, receiving TMC signals that are broadcast by national or regional providers. By simply connecting the new RDS-TMC Traffic Receiver to a TomTom device, users will automatically receive traffic information.
Once a journey is planned, traffic alerts relating to the route are clearly displayed on the traffic bar on the right hand side of the screen. By tapping the traffic bar, further information is displayed, such as the cause of the traffic incident, the length of the jam and the estimated delay.

Navigate with ease

Enter your destination on the ONE XL's touchscreen, and it will guide you with turn-by-turn voice prompts. You have the option of 2-D or 3-D map view, and the choice of 55 different voices for spoken guidance. You can even add celebrity voice prompts that are available for paid download from TomTom. You can choose the quickest or shortest route, elect to avoid toll roads or interstates, or use multi-destination programming to find the fastest way to run all your errands in one trip.

For extra safety, you can program the ONE to tell you when you're going over the posted speed limit. The voice guidance can be set to increase in volume with your car's velocity, and a compass mode adds a compass to the display for easier navigation. The lightweight ONE XL is portable too with its built-in battery lets you take it with you when you're on foot. 

Stay up to date

The included TomTom HOME software keeps your navigator up to date and allows you to access information and entertainment options from TomTom on your home computer. You can add more points of interest to customize your journey, or set up a "buddy list" of fellow TomTom users that you'll be able to instant message and keep track of using your TomTom ONE XL and a compatible phone.

If you have a phone with Bluetooth and GPRS data transfer system, you can subscribe to TomTom PLUS services for real-time updates on traffic info and weather conditions, plus additional downloads from TomTom. You can also add FM-TMC traffic-info service with an optional receiver and subscription if you don't have a compatible phone. The ONE XL does not perform any phone functions such as hands-free dialing.

    Review

    With so many PDAs and phones offering every type of functionality under the sun, it's easy to be seduced into thinking that they're good enough to do all their jobs brilliantly. That's not always the case, however, and as with attractive female tennis players, who are seduced by the lure of endorsement deals, technology companies often go too far and their products lose focus.

    TomTom is definitely not in this category – its products are more Justine Henin than Anna Kournikova – and has been producing top quality sat-nav systems for years. The latest in the TomTom range is a widescreen version of its portable One sat-nav and it aims to continue the tradition. TomTom's sat-navs are also a favourite in the TrustedReviews offices. We like them because they do two things very well: they provide accurate and sensible driving instructions, and they're intuitive and easy to use.
